EXTRA! EXTRA! - Reading Contest

posted Oct 22, 2015, 6:44 PM by Monica Weick
As of October 9 , my 6th and 7th-grade students (~45 students) have read a total of 99 books! What great start! However, we can do better, I know we can. Since the beginning of school year, students have been encouraged to read around 15-30 pages a night. A page here, a page there, it's all perfectly acceptable. Just keep reading each and every day. Read books, magazines, comics (1/2 pages), articles, and almost anything with words.

So let's read and have fun in the process. We're having a READING CONTEST!!!!

Here's how it works each student is asked to read 20 pages per day at least 6 days a week for the next 4 weeks (by Friday, November 20). That totals about 480 pages per student. Each class has added up the pages per student in each class so the
goals look something like this:

6th Grade (1) - 7,200 pages
6th Grade (3) - 8,160 pages
7th Grade (6) - 5,280 pages
  7th Grade (8) - 5,760 pages

Each class that reaches their goal will have a party! WAHOO! Students may bring a snack to share. I can't wait to share our progress as we near our reading goal! I know we can do it.
